I thought it might be good to summarize the names suggested thus far and start a new topic. Here goes:
- Idaho Disc Golf Team
- East Idaho Disc Golf Association
- East Idaho Flingers
- Spud Chuckers
- Sage Brush Disc Golf Association
- Sagebrush and Dirt DGC
- Wind Riders DGC
- High Desert Hyzer Disc Golf Club
- East Idaho Chain Slammers
- Eastern Idaho Chain Bashers
- Southeast Idaho Sage Brush Disc Golf Club
- High Desert Disc Golf Club
I'll add to the list:
- East Idaho Flying Disc Association/Club
- Southeast Idaho Salamanders
A note on the mythology of Salamanders from Wikipedia: "Numerous legends have developed around the salamander over the centuries, many related to fire. This connection likely originates from the tendency of many salamanders to dwell inside rotting logs. When placed into a fire, the salamander would attempt to escape from the log, lending to the belief that salamanders were created from flames - a belief that gave the creature its name." Salamander translates from Persian as "within fire."
If someone was artistic, a cool logo might be a salamander emerging from fire.
We'd probably have to ignore the fact that there aren't any salamanders in SE Idaho, too.... Damn....
That's all I can come up with this early in the morning.
Eric

Again, not that my opinion really matters, I am going to chime in again anyway. I think in the above list there are some really good names and some really bad ones, I'll keep my opinion of the bad ones to mysef. There are some names that I think too many people wouldn't understand the meaning of so they should probably not be used.
Here's another one that would be fitting and appropriate:

Ones I like (in no particular order)
East Idaho Disc Golf Association
East Idaho Flingers
Sagebrush Disc Golf Club or Association
High Desert Hyzers (my fave)
High Desert Disc Golf Club or Association
Snake River Disc Golf Club or Association
Caribou Disc Golfers (thats my new one)
I liked the Spud Chuckers too, but the Twin Falls club is called the chuckers (they spell it chukers), sooo...
I really like using the Sagebrush (one word or two?) or High Desert, or Snake River instead of Idaho or East Idaho. I just think they sound better and have more meaning.
Also, I like the Salamander thing. Contrary to belief, I grew up by a pond west of the mall and used to catch salamanders hiding under rocks. I think my favorite mascot is still the lizard. |

| I agree with The Prince. However If we do end up changing the club name I like club in the name not Association. Also East Idaho, not South East Idaho... |

To summarize again. It seems silly to have a club name that encompasses only Portneuf Valley when we clearly:
1. Have members outside of Portneuf Valley
2. Run and sponsor events outside of Portneuf Valley.
There is nothing wrong with the name we have had. We have seen growth and want to adapt to it. |

I just wanted to revitalize this thread. If anyone has any other suggstions, please add them here. If you have a vote for any already posted, please let us know. At the December meeting, we can all discuss and possibly vote on our favorites for a name change. If you like this idea, this is the place to let the club know about it. _________________ God is happiest when His children are at play, so PLAY. |

there are salamanders in the poky area. Mindy caught about 300 of them in the foothills this spring and actually made some cash selling them to pet stores, although it was probably illegal in 37 ways.
I vote to keep the name. there's nothing really wrong with it. the website is done.....more work for very little return. _________________ Look at the size of that pill, I can't swallow that.

Lance is right. Changing the name would be really difficult. This has just been brought up recently, so we all need to voice an opinion here. I am all for either way. I think changing the name would be more complicated than its worth. But if the club feels that PVDGC does not accurately encompass who we are, we can explore changing it.
Since we are based in the Portneuf Valley, I think the name is appropriate. The argument has come from the fact that we are really composed of folks from IF, Lava, Poky, Blackfoot, AF, and even Rupert.
We'd appreciate some opinions on this matter so we can see what the club as a whole is thinking. _________________ God is happiest when His children are at play, so PLAY. |

It seems to me that we should consider changing the name at some point, but for now, I think we have enough on our plate. Let's set this one aside for a year or so and then revisit it when things are a little more stable...
Just my opinion. |

The important thing to keep in mind here is that no matter what we call the club, it's not the name but how we represent the club that matters.
I think Matt's right - maybe it's not the right time to change the club name, considering all the other transitions that are on the horizon.
