Mook,
I am trying to get some more sponsors for Lance's fun runs and was wondering if you had any tips since you got such great sponsorship for the Halloween tourney. Did you send out letters or make calls, ect.?
Mindy
ps-I am sorry that Lance has become such a raunchy disc golf bully on this board. I am just as disturbed as all of you. I have no control over him. _________________ Look at the size of that pill, I can't swallow that.

It's nice to hear from the voice of reason in the family! As far as sponsorship goes. Don't try to overwhelm yourself, come up with an idea of how many businesses you would like to ask for help. I do about 20-25. New places in town are the best! First thing I do is send out a letter explaining what the event is, when it is, and how sponsorship will help the event. Explain how sponsorship helps them and, most importantly, describe what kind of sponsorship you are looking (money, merchandise, coupons, or services), and how much they can buy a sponsorship for. For example, at disc golf tournaments, a $50 amount can sponsor a hole, $100 can sponsor the scorecards, or what not. Alot of places get scared thinking they have to dish out huge amounts of money when its not the case. When I talked to Texas Roadhouse last year, he was surprise that he could get so much for so little.
Make sure to put contact information on it. Just make sure that your letter is no longer than 1 sheet of paper or they won't even read through it.
After you send out the letter, give them a week or two to mull it over and then visit them in person. They want to see your face if they give you sponsorship and its alot harder to say no to someone in person (reference the movie, "We Are Marshall").
Thats it! Get some dough and send thank you letter afterwards so that they know it was a success and you have a base to build on to the next year!
Hope this helps. |
