Mark your calendars for the start of the '09 SIMS on April 11th. We'll be playing two rounds of 18 at Ross Park starting at 9:45am. Additional info is on the "2009 SIMS" link at the top of the page.
The '09 Bag Tag Challenge will start at this event, as well. You can pay your annual dues to the club ($20) at the start of the event, and at the end, we'll give you a tag.
Any questions?

| Austin the tags came in the mail today, but I am in Atlanta. If you want to stop by my house and pick them up, I will let Muriel know that you are on your way. |

| How will the SIMS points system work? I dont realy like the way it was last year, and it might be to late to change it. But I played all but one SIMS last year. I never got last, still I only got a piont for showing up and a few bonus points. I would like it to be alittle more fair to the people who dont place high in every tournament. If there is a better way to score could we be open for a change? |

I am working on a points system as we speak. I'll fill everyone in at the event. I agree that it needs to be tweaked, so we are working on it.
Thanks for checking on that. It's good to see folks interested in the season-long standings. _________________ God is happiest when His children are at play, so PLAY. |

I second the notion that last year's points system wsa wierd.
simplest system: one point for everyone you beat plus 3 for showing up.
more complex: 3 points for showing up plus a point for every stroke below course par that is designated before the tournament.
example- ross park open par = 108 for 36 holes
adv par = 115
int par = 125
super complex: 3 points for everyone that shows. calculate average scores in each division. calculate the standard division deviation. 3 sigmas below S.D. = Negative 3 points. 2 sigmas below = 0 points. 1 sigma below = 1 point per stroke. 1 sigma above = 2 points per stroke. 2 sigmas above = 3 points per stroke. 3 sigmas above = 5 points per stroke.
so say the open group average is 100 and the standard deviation is 3.
If I shoot a 98 I get 3 for showing up plus 4 points (2 for each stroke within 1 sigma) If james shoots a 95 he gets 3 for showing up plus 3x2 for the 3 strokes within 1 sigma plus 2x3 for each stroke in 2 sigmas.
It is a progressive reward for being way above avearge plus you can still get points for being below average but now super below average. but let's say someone is extremely above average they actually affect the sigma enough that they don't clean up because it is really hard to get more than 1-2 sigmas away from the mean as sigma gorws larger.
Just a thought. _________________ Look at the size of that pill, I can't swallow that.

and... a bonus point for: lowest 18 hole score in a division each round, aces, beating James..... _________________ Look at the size of that pill, I can't swallow that.

Thanks for making fun of my system.
The reason we did it the way we did it last year is because all the series in Idaho previous were based on how many people showed up in your division. So, it was out of your control on how many points you recieved regardless of how you play. Comparitavely, we had a ton of people at Walcott two years ago and the winners of that tournament took home alot of series points. So much in fact that it didn't matter much how many other points they got at other events, as long as they just showed up.
The points based off of scores is a better way to do it. Whether you want to do off of averages or not. In league last year we just took your overall over/under according to par, so the best total score won. But that would be hard to do when playing different course cause they aren't all equal. One player could show up to Bengal and Freeman, win first in both, and still lose in points to the player who finished 5th at Ross and Walcott because they are much easier courses.
The bottom line is, no matter how you do it, if you want to win trophies at the end of the year, you gotta be a better player than most of your division. |

Agree with mook. it was tough when winning a big tournament made it a lock.
The thing I liked most about last year was that the rules and points were clear. at least you knew what you were getting into.
It wasn't a bad system overall. I only got 1 point at ross park too.
That's how it goes sometimes. I wish I could have made it to bengal to duke it out with the contenders.
I still like the idea of more points for showing up, despite the fact that i am going to miss most of them. _________________ Look at the size of that pill, I can't swallow that.

| The part I dont like about the old system is if you didnt finish in the top half of your division you didnt get any points. So if there were 9 players in your division you had to get 4th or better just to get any points. I just hope it changes. |

not just placement but scores. Imagine this:
5 advanced players show up. 4 shoot a 100 and 1 shoots a 95.
what is the average? 99. how many people get points? 1
that kind of happened as ross park where drew was so hot he pushed the average down and the pack was so close they all got bounced out of points.
weird. But every system hes its flaws. _________________ Look at the size of that pill, I can't swallow that.
