I was browzing through some of the different posting and I had seen "clinics" mentioned a few times.
Are there any up coming clinics in Pocatello or somewhere in southern Idaho?
How do I find out about them?
Where?
When?
I would really like to make the most of my summer and what better
way than disc golf.
Thanks
Denise

clinics are kind of an open ended ongoing discussion with very little reality behind them.
Razz

It seems everyone is interested in attending but not many people are interested in hosting. few people are even qualified to give a clinic in poky. Me teaching a putting clinic would be like bobby Knight teaching an anger management course.

That being said, we'll call friday's get together a distance clinic hosted by yours truly. if you are throwing under 300' I may be able to help. If you are throwing over 350' I don't have much on you.

I am also going to arbitrarily declare the first league of every month a clinic night as well. I'll be there at ross regardless, practicing anyone can come too. I'll recruit teachers, or the group can just combine their skills and help each other out. 5:30pm, ross park hole 1.

May 7- upshots. 150-75 feet, what to throw, avoiding rollaways, discs, spin, angles, flicks, skips.....avoiding that long putt. 5:30pm clinic, 6:30 league.
bring: midranges (buzz, roc, stingray, rhino...), putters and and overstable driver (firebird, excal, max)

June - Rollers maybe????? forehand???? I will be gone on the 4th- someone else jump in here.

July 2- midrange. 150-250 (280?) feet out. flick, turnover, hyzer, straight, skip, gernade..... tips and trick shots when a driver may not be appropriate. bring: mids and putters, overstable driver.

Aug 6- putting 50 feet and in, how to can it more consistently. including wind tips. I will not be teaching this one.
Bring all you putters, and a mid

September 3- I'm likely gone again. Escape trick shots? pancake, flick roller, tommahawk, stance tips for getting around trees, when NOT to use a mini....when to just trow a leteral and take a 4.

Any thought or objections? since league night is already for disc golf we might as well stack it up and save gas.

Here is a great website that will help anyone trying to improve their technique. I have watched Barry Schultz throw a drive probably 100 times and have tried to imitate his drive. The website has a ton of video of top pros and how they throw. It also breaks down the steps to the throw and shows it from different angle. If I can make it on friday I will, what time is the get together? and where?

Here is the site.

http://discgolfreview.com/resources/analysis/barryschultz.shtml

P.S. On the left hand side of the site is a link that says throw analysis, this will take you to a list of the different players.
Later,

Here is the link to the video from the Friday clinic. There was a ton of wind so the noise was really annoying, so I deleted it and added some classical music. It was the only music I had on my computer so that is what you get to listen to.

Let me know if you have any problems.

This is public so let me know if you wish for me to not show any of you throwing.

Wow - that seemed like a lot of work Caleb. It was nice to see some people I know throwing frisbees. Looked extra windy. Reflecting on the video - I'm not exactly sure how I should feel. I suppose the music contributed to this. My wife just laughed at me as I watched it. I suppose this was warranted. I'm wondering - what next - video footage of Lance typing blogs on this website - I guess that could be interesting. It was good to see you out throwing Caleb. Hopefully, we'll be able to throw together when I come home to visit in May. Be well.

mindy and i keep planning to take our dvd camcorder out, we just never get around to it.
you can really see a lot of the subleties of the different techniques. your body spins amzingly fast, mark is smooth all the way through, drew has great reach back, mike has a decent hop into the x-step.....

I am just glad to see I didn't fall down on camera.

GREAT VIDEO
Thanks for putting it on here.

4 of us went out yesterday
I still get messed up doing the x step very fast.
My frisbee goes haywire so I go back to the simple
" stand with your back to the target"

We ended up loosing 2 over the fences.
My son in law got a 10min butt chewing out by the lady but at least we got it back.

Great video, Caleb. It's great to be able and look at that before I started trying the x-step. It'll be fun to come back and see the differences.

Question to you all - do you use the cross step for all backhand drives, regardless of power needed? Just curious. What factors do you vary when you don't need as much power - reach back, arm speed, speed of run-up?

I usually x-step up until about 150'. then I throw forehand upshots for now. to vary power I reach back less, pull less and use my legs less, so i guess all of the above.
(don't forget to disc down too- in other words throw the slowest disc you can & still get there)

I like to use my runup whenever possible because I feel like it establishes rhythm, lets me clear my haed and keeps everything the same every time.

I will be at ross from about 5-5:40 practicing upshots if anyone wants to join. I have to go to soccer.

in particular i want to work on approaches on hole 3 original that don't roll away.
